Hang in there baby...we are in this together!
We are entering into Phase 4 – Revitalization-Restore Illinois. Yahoo!
As Illinoisans’ we are beginning the task of rebuilding our lives. Yet, there are so many more questions and unknowns that we are about to face. We may never know how this pandemic spread so quickly and we may never know it’s true impact for years to come.
What we do know is that we need to continue to be vigilant, by adhering to what the experts are saying.
We will continue to abide by the CDC, State and local guidelines and will provide the same level of service and respect for you, your guests and your loved one.
As considered an essential business, we witnessed firsthand how this epidemic had affected the lives of our friends and the community. Many were not able to say their goodbyes in a hospital, nursing home or here at the funeral home leaving them without closure and wanting more.
We know how painful this has been; just know we are open and here for you and your loved ones.
We thank all of our Doctors, Nurses and First Responders for all that you have done and continue to do for your community. For the families we have served and for those we have not, we thank you for your diligence by staying home keeping our community and your family safe.
Let’s continue our efforts of being safe. Stay home if you are not feeling well. Keep washing those hands; keep your distance, the more aware and diligent we are at this, the faster the recovery.
Eastland Disaster Commemoration
This year marks the 105th anniversary of the Eastland Disaster, Chicago's greatest loss of life.
On Saturday July 24, 1915, hundreds of Western Electric employees and their families boarded the S.S. Eastland to enjoy a day of activities taking part in it's 5th annual employee picnic. Tragedy struck as the ship started to list causing it to roll over only to capsize the vessel, killing 844 people, including 22 entire families.
There were thousands of people lined up along the Chicago River that day unfortunately to witness this event, over a 100 bystanders, police officers, firefighters, divers and the coast guard, were called to action in hope of saving as many as they could.
Hitzeman Funeral Home was one of the many Funeral Homes that assisted family's after this horrible event. The anniversary will be commemorated with a ceremony at the river's edge on July 24 (Friday) at 12 noon. Details may be viewed here. God Bless Their Souls.
WTTW Chicago is also airing a documentary regarding this event on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 9:00 P.M. CST. " Eastland" The shipwreck that shook America"
Stand up and be counted!
Have you completed the Census for your Household?
If you didn’t make sure you do. It is money in your pocket. The State provides funding to the village based on it’s population, which means less taxes coming out of your paycheck. With everything going on…every penny counts.

Can a Memorial Service be scheduled at this time?
As we enter into Phase 4, we are able to have 50 of your guests join you or someone you may know in the remembrance of their loved one. For those that are still restricted by travel constraints, we offer live streaming so that they are part of the services so the healing process can begin. We continue to abide by all State, and CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of our staff your
family and your guests.
We can’t take away the undeniable pain that you or your loved one has experienced during these troubling times, but perhaps, we can begin the path of healing. A visitation or service has proven to be so much more than one may realize. It lays the groundwork for the family that is left behind. Although a welcomed shoulder to cry on, a hug or a simple handshake
to offer one’s condolence may for the moment, seem taboo, support and interaction is still a significant part of the grieving process.
Whether you have chosen an immediate burial or you have had your loved one cremated, we can provide you with an array of ways to properly pay tribute for those you have lost.
For more information or to have us help you plan a tribute to honor the one you have lost, please contact us and we will work with you every step of the way.

Grief Support
We are working to re-start our grief support gatherings once again. As with everything else, we are looking at the best way to provide our families with the assistance they are looking for with their well being in mind.
There is still help to be given. The loss of a driver’s license, reduced mobility, a medical setback, these are some of the things that can turn an older adult’s life upside down. They are our parents, our former teachers, neighbors in our community, a generation of people whose wisdom and talents
shaped the Lyons Township area. Now they need a little assistance from us to stay connected with their community.
