This month we will be Celebrating 115 years of serving the community.
We don’t look too bad for being 115 years and we have you to thank for all of your support and trust in our family and staff. From our humble beginnings in 1904 on 26th & Keeler, to assisting families from the tragic Eastland Disaster to placing our roots in Brookfield. We
have based our longevity to the care and dedication that my great great grandfather started and instilled in each generation following. Support your community, and provide personal care and excellent service to all the families we serve.
What happened in 1904:
- Henry Ford sets a new automobile land speed record of 91.37 mph.
- Longacre Square in Manhattan is renamed Times Square after The New York Times.
- The teddy bear is first produced named after President Theodore Roosevelt.
- The first flat-disk phonograph is introduced.
- The London Symphony Orchestra is established
- For $10 million, the United States gains control of the Panama Canal Zone.
- The first underground line of the New York City Subway opens.
- Hitzeman Funeral Home was established, Chicago, IL
Keep a close eye open...we will be Celebrating all summer with special raffles and giveaways! Thank you for your continued support.
Hitzeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services has started a Flag Retirement Program to honor our veterans.
Most people are not sure of what to do with a flag that has seen better days. Some continue to fly their aged flag or have purchased a new flag while holding onto their old one.
At Hitzeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, we are collecting those worn, tattered or torn American flags that are no longer suitable for display and are no longer fit to serve the nation.
To honor our veterans, and if a family wishes, we will provide one of the aged retired flags donated to be cremated alongside their veteran. The flag collected will drape over the veteran’s cremation receptacle prior to cremation and will stay with them during the cremation process. This gives the flag one last great duty of honoring your loved one.
In accordance to The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states-“The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

“We have retired a number of flags over the years with my son’s Cub Scout Troop.” Chuck stated, “I believe that these flags have served us well. We have proudly displayed them at our homes, schools and businesses. Our retirement program is intended to salute those that have served our country, honor the flag that has flown, our nation and rest those flags in a respectful manner.”
Upon receipt of the veteran’s cremated remains, the family will receive a certificate stating the last deed of service for that flag, which had draped their veteran during the cremation process.
Stop by Hitzeman Funeral Home at 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513 and we will gladly accept those flags.
“We salute all those service men, woman and their families who have served promoting the freedom that we are fortunate to have today,” Chuck added “May God Bless you all.”

We would also like to thank the attendees that came to the Aging Care Connections Funeral Seminar. We hope you learned a lot and we answered all of your questions.
During our last Grief Support session, our participants were able to show off their creative talents by making a memory box.
This memory box is where they can hold special items that remind them of their loved one and a place to hold one’s grief. For those times when they need to reconnect with their loved one, they can open, explore, and reminisce.
Are there certain foods that remind you of your loved one? When was the last time you made their favorite recipe? This group gives you the opportunity to make your loved one’s favorite dish or recipe and also share a favorite memory. Yes, we’re having a POTLUCK! Food has always been a way for
people to connect and it doesn’t have to stop after death. Engaging in everyday activities like cooking and eating are great ways to continue the bond after loss by remembering them through food. Please bring a dish to share with the group and be prepared to have FUN, eat good FOOD, and FELLOWSHIP with other attendees.
If you or a family member or a friend would like to join us on July 9, 2019, please call to reserve your spot.
